4 Fabulous Glamping Spots
When I was a kid, my family and I would meet up with my aunts, uncles and cousins for glorious camping trips at “Camp Kilowatt” on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
This is me with my cousins Nelson and Susie.
My uncles brought their boats and my mom and aunts prepared amazing full meals cooked over open fires. We ate like kings!
The amount of work that must have gone into our camping excursions could hardly have been a vacation for the adults but for us kids, well, we were very happy campers.
Camping’s come a long way since my family’s pilgrimages to Camp Kilowatt. Today, you can "glamp" just about anywhere and some of these outdoor dwellings are so cool (yurts, tree houses, pimped out airstreams, tepees and even covered wagons) you may never wanna go home.
Campers, I believe fall’s the perfect time of year to venture into the wild cuz the days aren’t so hot and the cooler nights make sleeping a whole lot more comfy. So load up the car, pack your favorite snacks and head to one of these 4 fabulous glamping spots in our beautiful US.
1. CONESTOGA RANCH at Bear Lake, Utah offers the comforts of home in one of nature’s most magnificent settings. You can stay in a safari tent or bed down in a luxurious covered wagon.
2. EL COSMICO in Marfa, Texas is a bohemian lover’s dream. Disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and plug into nature and the pace of doing a whole lot of nothing. Have sweet dreams in a yurt, tepee, airstream or pitch your own tent under the stars.
3. Closer to home is UNDER CANVAS in the Great Smoky Mountains. Take in the breathtaking beauty while relaxing in open-air tents with more modern amenities than a 5 star hotel.
4. THE MOHICANS, outside of Akron, Ohio offers guests the chance to sleep with the birds in three different treehouses. Two of them were featured on Discovery’s “Tree House Masters.”
